PROVERB PRACTICALS

Proverbs 4:5,6,  Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

This is to be the continuing instruction of those in authority.

The pressing of those under authority to get wisdom, to get understanding.

Authority is never to suppress those under authority in their quest for wisdom, their quest for understanding.

There is to be a lifetime earnestness in seeking after wisdom and understanding.

Jesus said blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled.

The cry for wisdom, and the voice that is lifted for understanding will not be unanswered for God promises that those that cry shall be filled.

Those in positions of authority, pastors, fathers, mothers, supervisors, are to aid in that filling.

And this Proverbs father, this authority urges his son, urges those under authority to:

Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

The message is that wisdom and understanding will provide a framework of safety, a place of peace and tranquility.

This is God’s love for his own.

His desire is that his children are in the fortress of his love, and the walls of that fortress are built of his wisdom and his understanding.

Ignorance of God’s word provides for extreme and catastrophic danger but knowledge of God’s word provides for preservation and peace, the contrast is as simple as that!

How we see in the appeal of these words the imperative of this father to his son to get wisdom, to get understanding.

For this Father feels in his heart that unless this is done his son is doomed.

How much this intensity of responsibility should be felt by every father.

This father had a heart that communicates that unless instruction is given, unless attending and hearing takes place this child is doomed.

Oh, son this is the most important thing. Take heed to my words.
