PROVERB PRACTICALS   god is wisdom, counsel & understanding, Proverbs 8:14-15 audio

Proverbs 8:15-17,  By me kings reign, and princes decree justice. By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.  I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

God is wisdom, counsel, and understanding.

Regardless of a person’s belief he will operate within God’s wisdom for all that is seen, all that is known, all that operates is because of God’s wisdom.

All things are held together because God is wisdom.

We see this principle carried out when it comes to those in authority.

As Proverbs 8:15-16 says,  By me kings reign, and princes decree justice. By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.

Here is listed some on earth who are given great authority.

There is nothing on earth that has authority in itself for all authority comes from above.

The chain of command, whether in the home, at work, in government or the military, always originates and ends with God.

Kings are given to reign, princes, nobles and judges are given to decree and to rule.

Their reigning, their issuance of degrees originate from wisdom.

This is where their power derives and any use of that power outside of this source will tend to bring disorder and chaos to God’s order.

Proverbs 29:2 says,  When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

Wisdom has devised all powers and authorities and has also determined to whom it should be given.

"By me kings reign" tells us that all kings are not only in subordination to Wisdom, but are in power because of wisdom.

Woe be it to those in authority who blind themselves to the wisdom of God, for by wisdom they are endowed with authority to carry out that authority in the wisdom of God.

Too much in our culture and country do we hear that those in authority are servants of the people.

This is error for those in authority have been placed there by wisdom and they are ministers of God and not servants of the people.

An understanding of this distinction makes all the difference in the world in how every judge, every ruler, every king, prince and noble would rule.

Those in power who exercise their God given authority with this understanding will always hear the people rejoice and not mourn.

Those who think they are servants of the people can count themselves among the wicked and will forever hear the mourning of the people.

For those who think they are the servants of the people will not live according to the wisdom of God, but according to the will of the people, who without the truth of God will tend to corruption.

Can a man who knows that his authority comes from God support anything that God is against?

Can a man or woman take marriage and vote to corrupt it like those in authority wish to do so as to gain a certain group’s support.

That is what a servant of the people will do.

How can a supreme court justice who derives his power from on high support anything that goes against the wisdom from on high.

The answer comes from an understanding of who they think they work for.

Are they accountable to the people or are they ultimately answerable to Almighty God?

The only way a republic like our country can sustain itself is for a people to understand this and to have leaders who know that whatever authority they have they are accountable to God.

The more we have leaders who believe themselves accountable to the people the faster this country will decline for they will be beholden to those groups which offer them the most benefit.

Wisdom tells us in verse 17:  I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

Wisdom here speaks about love.

She says that she loves those that love her.

Now this truth is evident because those who operate according to God’s wisdom will be abundantly blessed for operating within the boundaries that wisdom sets.

Wisdom’s boundaries are pleasant boundaries.

Psalm 16:6, says,  The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.

The lines mentioned here means your inheritance, that is the boundaries that you live within.

When you were a little child Momma set boundaries for you.

Your crib was a safe boundary, your playpen was another boundary somewhat more expansive, then the back yard opened new vistas for you to explore.

You probably looked through the fence hoping for increased boundaries.

But Momma did not set boundaries because she hated you but because she loved you.

And those boundaries communicated that love to you for they protected you from danger.

Wisdom is like that.

Wisdom loves those, endears those to herself that love wisdom’s protective boundaries.

Those who love wisdom will continue to be blessed with a greater understanding of wisdom.

And those who love wisdom will seek wisdom early.

When she says those that seek her early shall find her she is saying that the seeking of wisdom is to be the first thing.

It is to be at the head of the line.

It must be the first desire and the choice of the heart.

It must be that which occupies the early hour, the first fruits of our time.

And not only that it must start early in life.

Why do we have a Christian School?

Why do we have a Sunday School? Why do we have Christian homes?

The answer lies here for we desire that our children seek wisdom early in life that all of their life is devoted to God.

We are not about the business of bringing up children for the glory of Satan.

Most of the world does that.

We desire not the flower of youth be spent on that wicked one and then to offer the leftovers of old age to God.

The Israelites were warned of giving their second best to God in:

Malachi 1:8,  And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.

Try offering your leftover time to your employer and see what his response will be.

Charles Bridges in his commentary on Proverbs asked this question: But is it reasonable – nay - is it not a most abasing thought – to offer the flower of youth to Satan; and when you have well worn out yourself in his service, to reserve only the dregs and sweepings of life for your Savior?

I have never heard of anyone who regretted coming to God early in life but the world is full of those who regret wasting their youth on themselves and having only the leftovers of life to give God.

This promise of Proverbs 8 is a wonderful promise to tell the children.

Those that seek me early shall find me.

God has claimed the children for himself.

He wants all of them to know him early because it is for their best.

Jesus rebuked the disciples for hindering the children from coming to him for he knew that left to grow old without knowing him, would put them in dangerous places.

There is no allowance from wisdom for sowing your wild oats.

That is an activity that is done by those who have not found wisdom early.

What disasters and regret have been avoided by young people who have found wisdom early!

Life itself has been extended.

Psalm 90:14 says,  O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

We have learned previously in our study of chapter 8 that wisdom is better than rubies and that there is nothing that can compare with it.

Wisdom now tells us in verses 18-21 of the value that wisdom brings to those who love wisdom.  Go to Proverbs 8:18-21
